Jacob Rochester

BIOGRAPHY

Jacob Rochester is a Los Angeles, California based artist with a BFA from the University of Connecticut. His work ranges from photorealistic to gestural with roots to his Jamaican heritage. He expresses lived experiences and nostalgia both personal and found with additional cultural references stemming from fashion, music, and entertainment. He has added onto his creative endeavors through works in typography, streetwear, and making music which he attributes to his art-centered upbringing and cultural identity within black America. His paintings range from mediums like oil to watercolor-gouache, but he has also produced works through his exploration of new digital mediums. Rochester’s art is in constant evolution, moving fluidly between memory, form, fine art and design. While carefully incorporating tradition to innovation, he believes the approach to his craft remains the same. Despite facing uncertainties during creative growth, he still absorbs the world, refines his practice and trusts that the work and himself will continue to evolve.
