Covering the journey of Suanjaya Kencut’s artistic evolution, ‘A Journey Through Button-Eyed Worlds’ offers a richly illustrated, premium-quality printed, 160 page hardcover monograph written by the artist and edited by Adhi Pandoyo with a limited edition release of 500 copies. The book unfolds across five distinct chapters, following Kencut’s journey from a young boy riding a motorbike to school in Bali to an internationally recognized artist with home still deeply engrained in his subconscious. Kencut confronts his upbringing and culture every creative step of the way, ushering dialogue between himself and his audience through mute button-eyed dolls that move, connect, and communicate with disarming innocence. He invites all readers into a deeper look at his creative process where memory and culture are but small parts of the universal human condition. Coinciding with the publication’s release, the exhibition will feature a carefully curated selection of paintings and drawings from Kencut’s studio that best echo the monograph’s themes of reflection, exploration, and personal transformation.
