David R. Prentice (born December 22, 1943)

is an American artist. Prentice was born in Hartford, Connecticut and studied at the Art School of the University of Hartford from 1962 to 1964, after which he worked as a studio assistant to Jasper Johns, Robert Motherwell, Helen Frankenthaler, Alexander Liberman and Malcolm Morley.

Prentice started his artistic carrer in the late 50 s’ as a Minimalist painter, in the 60s’ he had solo shows in some of the most renowned galleries like New York’s Teuscher Gallery and Sonnabend Gallery. In the same period Prentice was associated with Lyrical Abstraction and his work was exhibited at the Park Place Gallery in New York City among other places.

In the seventie’s then he mixed his abstract style with a slightly figurative mode finding innovative artistic solutions; then is the 80 s’ became an accomplished and internationally known landscape painter. Just in the last period he decided to recapture the abstract – minimalist art getting it towards a new avantgarde.

He has exhibited his work in several exhibitions all over the world and he now lives between Manhattan and Ashikawa City in Japan.

During the 1960s Prentice was associated with Lyrical Abstraction and his work was exhibited at the Park Place Gallery in New York City among other places.

His work can be found several internationally known meusems and public art institutions permanent collections like the Museum of Modern Art, New York, Yale University, New Haven Connecticut, National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, Corcoran Gallery, Washington, DC, Kirama hospital, Asahikawa, Japan, Royce Confect, Sapporo, Japan.
